Oilers Primary Logo
The Houston Oilers' primary logo has a long and storied history, dating back to its inception in 1960. The original logo featured an oil derrick with the words "Houston Oilers" written across it in white letters. This design was used until 1965, when a more modern-looking blue star replaced it with red trim and white lettering that read "Houston Oiler Football Club." This version of the logo lasted for 15 years before being changed again in 1980.
The third iteration of the Houston Oilers Primary Logo debuted during their first season as part of the NFL's AFC Central Division, which began play after merging with several other teams from around Texas, including the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Gunslingers. It featured an updated version of their classic oil derrick, rendered entirely in blue and featuring two stars on either side instead of just one like its predecessor had done since 1965. The wordmark also received a makeover; it now reads “Oilers” rather than “Houston Oiler Football Club,” as seen in earlier versions before the 1980s redesigns. This particular design lasted throughout the team's tenure within NFL (1960-1996) until they were relocated to Tennessee, where they became known as Titans, starting 1997 season onwards, from then until the present day.
Finally, in 2020, the city announced plans for a new football team called XFL's Roughnecks who will be using a modified version of the classic Houston Oilers Primary Logo, albeit slightly altered but still keeping the same basic look from the 1960's era, such as the iconic Oil Derrick shape along with two stars flanking each side along with reworked text font style which reads simply H -Town without any mention about the actual sport itself, unlike previous versions where name clearly stated what kind sport this is so people can easily recognize them at glance no matter how far away you may be located geographically speaking. All these changes have been made very carefully, taking into account fan feedback so everyone could enjoy a fresh take while still paying homage to those great players who once wore jerseys proudly wearing old school logos during golden days gone past!
