Capitols Primary Logo
The Washington Capitols have had a long and storied history in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Since its inception in 1973, they have gone through many changes to its logo. The primary logo of the team has been updated over time to reflect new designs and styles that are reflective of both the city’s culture as well as its sports teams.
The original Washington Capitols logo featured an outline of a basketball with red, white, and blue stripes running along it. This design was used from 1973 until 1997 when it was replaced by a more modern look featuring two stars above an outlined silhouette of the U.S Capitol building with “Washington” written across below it in bold lettering. This version lasted until 2011 when another update brought about some minor tweaks such as adding shading to give depth to certain areas of the design while still maintaining much of its original style elements like colors used for each area on this image including navy blue for stars and background; gold outlining around edges; grayish-blue tones inside silhouettes; white text beneath Capitol Building silhouette spelling out "Washington"; plus light yellow or tan color filling space between letters spelling out "Capitals".
In 2018 yet another change happened which involved removing all previous colors except navy blue & gold and then replacing them with red & silver instead - thus creating the current version seen today where there's now only one star above outlined U.S Capitol Building Silhouette but also having added curved lines connecting bottom points together giving off impression resembling shape/outline found within American flag - plus words “WASHINGTON CAPITALS" spelled out underneath using same font typeface seen since 2011 update but now colored silver instead prior versions' white coloring scheme. Through these various iterations throughout the past four decades, fans can clearly see how much progress made toward perfecting the iconic symbol representing a beloved franchise!
