Grizzlies Wordmark Logo
The Memphis Grizzlies have a long and rich history with their wordmark logo. It has evolved over the years, but it still retains the same core elements that make it recognizable to fans of the team. The current version of the wordmark was unveiled in 2019, but its roots can be traced back to 1995 when they were first established as an expansion franchise in Vancouver.
The original logo featured two grizzly bears standing on either side of a basketball court with "Memphis" written across them in bold letters. This design was used until 2001 when they moved to Memphis and adopted new colors and logos for their rebranding effort. The updated logo featured two grizzlies facing each other above a shield-shaped outline containing "Memphis" written inside along with five stars representing each state within Tennessee's borders at that time (Tennessee had not yet added its sixth star).
Since then, there have been several iterations of this design including minor tweaks such as changing font styles or adding additional details like stripes or flames around certain parts of the shield shape; however, all versions remain true to form by keeping both grizzlies intact while incorporating some sort of reference towards Tennessee’s geography into every iteration - making sure no matter what changes are made throughout evolution process - one thing will always stay constant: No matter which way you look at it —it’ll always be unmistakably “Grizzlies."
