Capitols Wordmark Logo
The Washington Capitals have been a part of the National Hockey League since 1974 and their wordmark logo has become an iconic symbol for the team. The original logo was designed by Alan Siegel, who also created logos for other professional sports teams such as Major League Baseball’s Montreal Expos and New York Mets. The first version of the wordmark featured a bold white font with red accents that made it stand out against any background color.
In 1995, the Capitals introduced an updated design to accompany their new uniforms which were unveiled in the 1996-97 season. This iteration included two additional colors – navy blue and gold – to give it more depth while still maintaining its classic look from before. It also incorporated elements from previous versions such as serifs on certain letters like “C” or “A”, but with sharper edges than before making them appear more modernized overall appearance compared to earlier designs used by other NHL teams at that time period.
The current version of Washington Capitols' wordmark is based on this same design concept but features some minor modifications including slight alterations in letter shapes/font size which make each character stand out better when placed together on one line or separately across multiple lines (i.,e., CAPITALS). Additionally, they added another color - silver - into the mix so now there are four different shades combined within one piece giving it an even richer visual appeal than ever before! All these subtle changes help create a timeless brand identity that will remain recognizable regardless if you're looking at jerseys worn during game day or promotional items found inside arena stores around town; thus ensuring fans everywhere can proudly show off their support for DC's hockey team no matter where they go!
