Vancouver Grizzlies
1996 - 2001
The original Grizzlies logo featured a grizzly bear holding basketball with teeth and claws out. A wordmark "VANCOUVER" in red above the wordmark "GRIZZLIES" in teal on top of the grizzly. The letters "G" and "S" are larger than the other letters in the wordmark "Grizzlies."
Grizzlies Primary Logo
The Vancouver Grizzlies' primary logo history is one that has seen many changes over the years. The team was founded in 1995, and its first logo featured a grizzly bear on top of a basketball with the word “Grizzlies” written underneath it. This design lasted until 2001 when they changed to an updated version featuring two grizzly bears above a mountain range and the words “Vancouver Grizzlies” written across them.
In 2004, after moving from Vancouver to Memphis, Tennessee, their primary logo underwent another change: this time featuring three stars in place of two bears and removing all text from the image. This design remained for four seasons before being replaced by yet another new look; this one had just one star instead of three but still kept no text within its image. Finally, in 2010 they unveiled what would become their last official logo: again featuring only one star but adding back some lettering beneath it reading "Memphis Grizzlies".
The various logos used by Vancouver throughout its short-lived existence have been interesting to observe as each iteration brought something unique or different compared to those before it - whether that be minor tweaks or major overhauls - making for an intriguing visual history that will always remain associated with this beloved franchise despite them now playing thousands of miles away from where they began!
