Bobcats Wordmark Logo
The Charlotte Bobcats' wordmark logo has a long and exciting history. The team was founded in 2004 as the first major professional sports franchise in Charlotte, North Carolina. The original logo featured a jumping bobcat with its claws outstretched, surrounded by an orange circle and two blue stripes on either side. This design was meant to represent the city's spirit of determination and resilience while also serving as a tribute to the state’s wild cat population.
In 2012, when Michael Jordan became the team's majority owner, he changed their name from “Bobcats” back to “Hornets,” which had been used prior between 1988-2002 for another NBA franchise located in Charlotte before it moved away from North Carolina. Along with this name change came an updated version of their wordmark logo featuring a larger font size and bolder colors – teal green instead of blue along with purple accents instead of orange ones – that better reflected what they wanted people to associate them with in terms of style: modern yet sophisticated look that would make fans proud whenever they saw it printed on jerseys or other merchandise items associated with Hornets brand identity.
Today after several changes over the years, Charlotte Hornets have established themselves among the best logos not only in basketball but all professional sports teams thanks to essentially part rebranding efforts led by Jordan himself, who understood the importance of having a powerful visual representation of one of the most recognizable franchises in the world. With sleek letterforms vibrant color palette, the iconic mark continues to capture both the passion and excitement of being part of something special like Hornet Nation while still paying unique homage to the roots of where it all began: Queen City itself!
