Minnesota Timberwolves
The logo has many nods to Minnesota, the team and, of course, the Timberwolf. There’s the North Star which represents one of the pillars Minnesota hangs its hat on. The star represents Minnesota pride. The new logo represents looking forward and carving out new territory. The open mouth with the teeth showing represents the fierce .energy of not just one Wolf, but a collective unit. To show aggression and fearlessness to the future. The green of the eyes is a nod to the green that surrounds the state whether that be through Northern Lights, reflection of ice crystals in the winter or the flourishing of buds of trees in the spring. The primarily colors include midnight blue, aurora green, lake blue, moonlight grey and frost white. “From the motion and vibrant hues of the Northern Lights, to the depths and reflections of a midnight forest, to the rich contrasts of this great frozen city of the north, the palette is the perfect representation of modern sport colors inspired by the story of Minnesota’s landscape,” Richardson said. “It’s color with a sense of place.” For Richardson, he loves how the logo is simple, yet intense. The logo was designed by Rodney Richardson of RARE Design.
Timberwolves Wordmark Logo
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a rich history in the NBA, and their wordmark logo has been a part of that story since the team’s inception. The original logo was unveiled in 1989 when the Timberwolves joined the NBA as an expansion franchise. It featured a cartoon wolf wearing sunglasses, with its paw on top of a basketball set against an orange background. This design remained until 1996 when it was replaced by another version featuring two wolves howling at each other above “MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES” written out in block letters below them.
In 2008, this iconic look underwent yet another change to what we know today: A fierce-looking gray timberwolf head facing forward with bright yellow eyes and white teeth bared over “TIMBERWOLVES” written underneath it all in thick black font—a modern take on classic logos from decades past that still manages to stand out among its peers today. This design also features three stars along either side which represent Minnesota's state motto—"L'Étoile du Nord," or "The Star of The North."
Overall, while there have been several iterations throughout its 30+ years of history; one thing remains constant -the passion behind every new version of its beloved wordmark logo is undeniable! From cartoon wolves wearing sunglasses to fierce timberwolves heads bearing sharp teeth ready for battle—each one captures something unique about what makes being a part of this organization so special for fans across generations alike!
