Islanders Wordmark Logo
The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team based in Brooklyn, New York. The franchise was founded in 1972 as part of the NHL’s expansion into the Sunbelt region and is one of three Metropolitan-area teams currently competing in the league. The Islanders have had several logos over their long history, but none are as recognizable or iconic as their current wordmark logo, which has been used since 1995.
The original logo design for the Islanders featured a blue hockey puck with an orange "NY" inside it, and two crossed sticks behind it on a white background. This design was used from 1972 to 1978 before being replaced by another version featuring an orange shield with four stripes at its base and “New York” written across it in black lettering on top of a navy blue background. This version lasted until 1995 when they unveiled their famous wordmark logo, which features bold block letters spelling out “Islanders” placed above two crossed sticks against an icy blue backdrop representing Long Island Sound, where many games were played during those years.
Today, this classic yet modern-looking mark remained unchanged from its first iteration back nearly 25 years ago; however, slight variations can be seen depending upon what type of merchandise item you may purchase bearing this timeless symbol – whether that be apparel such as hats or t-shirts to more unique items like skateboards or beach towels - all proudly displaying this beloved piece of Isles history!
