Athletics Alternate Logo
The Oakland Athletics is a professional baseball team based in Oakland, California. They have been part of the American League since 1901 and have won nine World Series titles. The Athletics’ logo history is an interesting one, as they have had several different logos over the years that reflect their storied past.
The most iconic logo of all time for the A's has to be their classic elephant symbol from 1968-1980 which was designed by legendary artist Charles Finley. This design featured an elephant with its trunk upraised and wearing a hat with “Athletics” written across it in gold lettering on a navy blue background surrounded by white stars and stripes patterned trimming around it. This design was so popular that even after they changed their main logo to feature just two crossed bats in 1980, fans still continued to wear apparel featuring this classic look until today!
Aside from this famous emblem, there were also other alternate logos used throughout the years such as; The "A"s wordmark (used between 1982-90), The "Atomic Elephant" (1990-93) which depicted an atomic explosion behind our beloved mascot along with various other designs like; block letters spelling out OAKLAND or A'S, cartoonish elephants throwing baseballs, etc... Each unique style adding more flavor & character into what we know now as modern day Athletics branding!
