The first iteration of the Philadelphia Phillies’ wordmark was introduced in 1933 when they were still known as “the Quakers;” it featured an italicized script with two stars on either side forming an arch above it. This version remained unchanged until 1955 when new owners decided to update their image by introducing a more contemporary style that included bolder letters with no stars or arches surrounding them—a move that would become iconic for decades afterward.
