Tigers Alternate Logo
The Detroit Tigers have a long and storied history that dates back to 1901. The team has gone through many changes over the years, but one thing that has remained constant is their alternate logo. This iconic symbol of the franchise’s past can be seen in various forms throughout its existence, from early versions featuring a tiger head silhouette to more modern designs with bold lettering.
The earliest version of this logo was created in 1934 and featured an orange circle with black outlining around it containing a white tiger head silhouette inside. It remained relatively unchanged until 1969 when it received an update by adding yellow stripes along the bottom edge of the circle as well as red accents on either side of the tiger’s face for added emphasis. In 1981, this design was tweaked slightly again by changing out some colors and adding two stars above each ear for further detail work before being retired after the 1987 season due to new ownership taking control at that time period.
In 2006 however, the original logo made its return after nearly 20 years of absence as part of then-owner Mike Illitch's effort to bring back old-school traditions associated with Detroit baseball teams. Since then, it had been modified several times while still maintaining its classic look such as introducing different color palettes or altering certain elements within the design itself like removing stars near ears or replacing them entirely by moving them elsewhere on body shape. Despite these minor adjustments though, this timeless emblem continues to represent the Tigers' organization even today just like how it did decades ago when first debuted all those years ago.
