The New York City Football Club (NYCFC) is a professional soccer team based in the city of New York. The club was founded in 2013 and began playing competitively during the 2015 season. Since then, NYCFC has become one of Major League Soccer’s most successful teams, having won multiple trophies including an Eastern Conference title and two Supporters' Shields. As part of its identity as a club, NYCFC has had several logos since they were established which reflect its place within the culture and history of both American soccer and New York City itself.
The first logo for NYCFC was unveiled on May 21st, 2013 when it became known that Manchester City FC would be partnering with MLB's Yankees to form this new MLS franchise based out of Yankee Stadium in Bronx NY. This logo featured an iconic blue circle with white stars around its circumference representing each borough within New York City; Manhattan Island is represented by five stars while Brooklyn Queens Staten Island & The Bronx are each represented by three stars respectively inside this circular shape sits a shield divided into four sections featuring various symbols associated with all aspects from sports to music & art synonymous with “the Big Apple” at center stage lies two interlocking letters: N-Y placed atop one another forming what looks like wings or sails depending on how you view them symbolizing flight/freedom & progressiveness something many immigrants who come through Ellis island can identify strongly too
In 2016 after much anticipation from fans worldwide just before kick-off for its second season as an MLS franchise; New York City Fc released its second logo design which was inspired by the club's original but with some significant changes made such as replacing the blue circle shape of the first logo with a more modern looking navy blue hexagon & replacing the shield with a new design featuring three separate colors-blue navy blue sky blue dark gray & white all representing different parts from the new york city skyline as well as there regional sports teams in the northeast region of America. This new hexagonal shape also featured two interlocking letters N and Y again but this time inside the hexagon shape instead of on top of the two letters this new design received positive feedback from both supporters and critics alike for its unique look that captured all aspects of what makes up NYC FC and its surroundings while keeping its.
