D.C. United is a professional soccer team based in Washington, D.C., and they have had a long history of success since its founding in 1996. They are one of the most successful franchises in Major League Soccer (MLS), having won four MLS Cups, four Supporters' Shields, two U-20 CONCACAF Championships, and one Lamar Hunt US Open Cup trophy during that time period. Along with this success has come an iconic logo that has become synonymous with the team’s identity over its nearly 25-year existence: The Eagle Crest Logo or “DCU” as it is affectionately known by fans around the world.

The original DCU logo was unveiled on June 21st, 1996 when D.C United announced their inaugural season to much fanfare from supporters across America's capital city. It featured an eagle perched atop a shield bearing three stars representing each branch of government within Washington; Congress, Executive & Judicial.
