Timbers Alternate Logo
The Portland Timbers alternate logo has a long and storied history. It dates back to the early 1970s when the team was first established as an expansion franchise in Major League Soccer (MLS). The original logo featured a lumberjack carrying an axe over his shoulder with two crossed trees behind him. This symbolized the city's strong connection with logging and its rugged outdoor lifestyle. Over time, this logo underwent several changes that reflected both local culture and modern trends in design.
In 2011, following their move to MLS from USL-1 (United Soccer Leagues), the Timbers unveiled a new secondary crest featuring three fir tree silhouettes set against a green background—a nod to Oregon’s famous Douglas firs—as well as four stars representing each of their major championships since 1975: one for winning NASL Conference Championships in 1978 & 1982; one for winning USL First Division titles in 2004 & 2009; and two for winning US Open Cups respectively in 2004 & 2018. In 2015, they updated it again by adding gold accents around some of these elements while also introducing “PTFC” letters at a center stage which stands proudly today atop all official merchandise bearing this iconic image!
Today, Portland Timbers' alternate Logo is still widely recognized throughout North America due to its unique combination of tradition with modernity making it instantly recognizable no matter where you go! Its enduring popularity speaks volumes about how beloved soccer is within this great city - something that will surely remain unchanged for many more years to come!
