Comets Alternate Logo
The Houston Comets are one of the most iconic teams in the history of women’s basketball. As a founding member of the WNBA, they quickly established themselves as a powerhouse team and won four consecutive championships from 1997-2000. While their success on the court is well known, many fans may not be aware that over their twenty-year existence, they have had several alternate logos that were used to represent them at different points in time.
The first logo was unveiled when they joined the WNBA back in 1997 and featured an orange comet shooting across a blue background with “Houston” written above it and “CometS” below it. This logo was used until 2000 when it was replaced by another version featuring two comets facing each other with stars surrounding them along with “Houston Comets Basketball Club" written around them. This remained unchanged for ten years before being retired after the 2010 season due to financial reasons related to ownership changes within the organization.
The next design introduced came during the 2011 season which featured a more modern look featuring three white stars arranged into triangular shapes set against black background surrounded by red trimming outlining the entire image. It also included the phrase "Established 97" underneath the star formation indicating the team's long-standing tradition since its inception into the league nearly 15 years prior. In 2013, this logo underwent minor tweaks where the wording changed from "Established 97"to just plain number "97". Then finally 2014 saw a complete redesign where all elements saw previous versions were removed leaving only a single large star centered inside a solid colored circle representing both cities of Houston & state of Texas while still paying homage to past designs through the use of colors found in the original 1997 version such as red, orange & blue hues present throughout the new iteration."
Overall these various alternate logos show how much evolution has taken place within franchises over the course last two decades even though core essence remains the same - winning championships! Fans can expect to see further refinements in future iterations but no matter what happens will always remember classic images associated with the early days club fondly forevermore.
