Argonauts Wordmark Logo
The Toronto Argonauts have a long and storied history as one of the oldest teams in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Over their more than century-long existence, they’ve had several different logos and wordmarks, including the Toronto Argonauts Primary logo. Today we’re taking a look at how these logos evolved over time to create an iconic brand for this team.
The first logo used by the Argonauts was adopted in 1873 when it began its life as an amateur rowing club. The logo featured two crossed oars above three stars with “TORONTO ARGONAUTS ROWING CLUB” written beneath them. This design remained until 1890 when it was replaced by a shield-shaped crest featuring white lettering on a blue background that read “Toronto A Rowing Club Estabd 1873".
This version of the logo changed slightly throughout its lifetime but remained relatively unchanged until 1909 when it became known simply as "Argonaut Athletic Association" with no other text or imagery present on their new badge-shaped crest which featured red lettering outlined in black against white background along with two crossed oars inside of circle shape border around edge of the badge itself.
From then onwards, there were only minor changes made to this classic design such as changing the color scheme from red/black/white combination to a navy blue/gold combination (1930) or adding additional elements like maple leafs behind the shield's outline (1959). In 1968 however major overhaul happened - the entire concept got scrapped entirely replacing old school style crest altogether! The new era brought us a modernized version which included a stylized 'A' symbol within a large circle surrounded by words: 'ARGOS', 'FOOTBALL' & year established – 1973 all set against a light greyish backdrop giving off a very sleek yet powerful vibe overall!
Today's current wordmark is still based upon the same basic idea introduced back in 1968; however, some modifications have been done since then most notably a change from the traditional serif typeface being used before the switchover to sans serif font family now employed today providing much cleaner look overall while also making sure that tradition isn't lost completely either way! All things considered, though evolution has been quite successful so far keeping up both the spirit & identity associated with the Toronto Argos brand even after decades' worth of changes along the way...
