Argonauts Alternate Logo
The Toronto Argonauts have a long and storied history in the Canadian Football League, and that includes their alternate logos. The team has used several different designs over the years to represent its brand, with each one having its own unique story behind it. Today we're taking a look back at some of these iconic designs to see how they've evolved over time.
The first alternate logo for the Argos was introduced in 1987 and featured an orange-colored football helmet with two crossed swords on either side of it. This design was meant to symbolize strength, courage, loyalty, and determination—all qualities that are associated with the team’s name—and quickly became popular among fans who wanted something more modern than traditional crest designs from other teams around Canada at that time.
In 2002 another version of this logo was released which featured a slightly modified design but still kept many elements from before such as the crossed swords motif along with some new additions like an updated color scheme featuring navy blue instead of black or grey tones found in earlier versions as well as adding stars above each sword blade representing Toronto’s status within Ontario's largest city (the “Sixth Star").
In 2014 yet another redesign occurred where all previous elements were removed except for one: The double-barred shield shape which had become synonymous with Toronto Argonauts fandom throughout Canada by then remained intact but received minor tweaks such as being filled out completely rather than just outlined beforehand plus some additional detailing added onto both sides including three stripes running down vertically off center towards left side; five stars placed above them; four small circles near the bottom right corner (representing number 4 jersey worn by legendary player Joe Krol); two curved lines crossing through middle section forming X pattern underneath words ‘Toronto” & “Argos"; lastly large stylized letter A completing entire composition giving whole thing distinct look while also paying homage original Argo crest dating back 1880s era when the club first formed!
From classic crests inspired by heraldry traditions all way up until present-day contemporary looks - there is no doubt plenty of symbolism embedded into every iteration of the Argonaut emblem throughout decades even if you don't know the exact meaning behind certain shapes/colors etc...it's important to recognize the importance these visual representations hold not only players/coaches themselves but also thousands upon thousands loyal supporters across the country who proudly wear merchandise bearing famous double barrelled shield wherever they go!
