Pirates Alternate Logo
The Shreveport Pirates were a professional Canadian Football League (CFL) team that played in the city of Shreveport, Louisiana from 1994 to 1995. During their brief tenure, they developed an alternate logo that has become one of the most iconic designs in CFL history.
The original design was created by artist and designer Chris Smith who had previously worked with other sports franchises such as Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers. The logo featured a pirate ship sailing on rough seas with two crossed swords behind it and a skull and crossbones at its center. The colors used for this design were black, white, and red - symbolizing strength and courage - while also being reminiscent of traditional pirate flags from centuries past.
In addition to its use as an alternate logo for the franchise during their time in Shreveport, this particular image has gone on to be adopted by many other teams around North America including Arena Football's Albany Firebirds (now known as Washington Valor), United Soccer Leagues' Wilmington Hammerheads FC (now defunct) and even American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals who currently wear it proudly on their sweaters today!
Furthermore, due to its popularity among fans both old & new alike; several variations have been made over time including different color schemes or minor alterations like adding stars or changing some details within each element itself – all while keeping true to Smith’s original vision & intention when creating it back then more than 25 years ago now!
Despite only existing briefly during those two seasons before ultimately folding after 1996; the legacy left behind by these pirates still lives strong through not just memories but also merchandise bearing that ever-recognizable emblem – making sure we remember them always no matter how long ago they sailed off into sunset…
