Elks Alternate Logo
The Edmonton Elks have a long and storied history in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Since its inception in 1949, they have had numerous alternate logos to represent its team. From the classic elk head logo of the 1950s to more modern interpretations of it from recent years, each version has its own unique story.
The original elk head logo was designed by illustrator Charles Martin for the inaugural season of 1949. It featured an image of an elk’s head with antlers and a white “E” on either side representing Edmonton. This design was used until 1960 when it was replaced by another version that featured two crossed American footballs instead of antlers and red stars around them symbolizing Canada's national flag at that time. The current alternate logo is based on this one but features three white stars replacing red ones as well as some minor modifications such as different font styles for "Elks."
In addition to these changes over time, there have been several other special logos created throughout history including those celebrating anniversaries or commemorating particular players or coaches associated with the team like Normie Kwong who became the first Chinese-Canadian player drafted into CFL back in 1948 when he signed up with Elks organization itself! Other notable designs include a 50th-anniversary crest featuring five maple leaves arranged around an Elk silhouette which was released during the 1999 season while the most recent new heritage uniform unveiled in late 2020 pays homage to both past & present teams alike through the use of traditional colors along updated versions iconic symbols found early days franchise too!
Overall, despite all these alterations made throughout the years, one thing remains the same: pride & passion behind every single iteration befittingly reflects the spirit fans show towards beloved club day after day - making sure no matter what changes may come about in the future still stands proud under the banner ‘Edmonton Elks.'
