AFC Bournemouth is a professional football club based in Dorset, England. The team has been around since 1899 and its primary logo has gone through many changes over the years. This essay will discuss the history of AFC Bournemouth’s primary logo and its evolution throughout time.
The first known version of AFC Bournemouth’s primary logo was introduced in 1923 when they were still known as Boscombe Athletic Football Club. It featured an image of a lion with its front paws resting on top of two crossed swords, along with “Boscombe A F C” written above it in black lettering surrounded by a white circle border. This design remained unchanged until 1971 when the team changed their name to AFC Bournemouth and updated their crest accordingly to reflect this change; however, other than that there were no major alterations made at this point in time.
In 1998, after several minor modifications had been made over the course of 25 years, the club decided to make some more radical changes to its crest which included replacing both colors used (red & blue) with one single color (green), updating all lettering styles from serif font into sans-serif font, and introducing new elements such as an outline map representing Dorset county and three stars symbolizing promotion from each division up until then. These new additions have become synonymous with modern-day versions which are currently being used today by fans world wide.
