Breakers Logo History

The Boston Breakers are a professional women’s soccer team based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1978 as part of the United States Football League (USFL), the Breakers have become an iconic symbol of women’s soccer in New England and beyond. As such, their logo has gone through several iterations over the years to reflect their changing identity and style.

When the USFL was founded, it adopted a shield-shaped logo with three stars representing each of its original teams: The Birmingham Stallions, Chicago Blitz, and Los Angeles Express. This same design served as a template for all other teams that joined afterward – including our beloved Breakers! The first iteration featured two crossed blue lines on top of an orange background; this represented both footballs itself (the shape) and water (the color). It also included “Boston” written across it diagonally from left to right along with “Breakers USFL” written at the bottom center-right corner below two small stars above them which represented USA flag colors red & white respectively.

Over time, however, due to changes within ownership or management, some minor alterations were made - most notably when they switched from being called "Boston" breakers back to simply "Breakers". In addition, during this period they shifted away from using classic font typeface instead opting for a more modern look while still maintaining the same basic elements like star symbols & 2 crossed lines, etc.

Today's version features navy blue stripes behind bright yellow text spelling out just one word: BREAKERS! This simpler design is reflective not only of how far we've come since 1978 but also of what lies ahead for us going forward into future generations.
