It makes perfect sense for an individual to develop brand loyalty towards their favorite company, clothing brand, or professional team through its logo. Indeed, it makes sense for one to have that same sense of loyalty towards their alma mater through their logo.
Massachusetts Minutemen Primary Logo 2021 - Present
Recently, the University of Massachusetts made a change to its logo after a decade. There is prestige to be found in any institution’s athletic program. However, there is no doubt that it exists in a program that has alumni such as Victor Cruz, Marcus Camby, and the great Julius Erving. There have been several changes to the school’s logo since 1985.
From 1985 to 1992, the school’s first logo featured an old-style letter "U" colored in red. In addition, a silver banner was draped across the middle of the letter "U." The word “Massachusetts” is written in red across the silver-colored banner. Its font provided the logo with a simplistic and potent feel.
In 1993, the school made a drastic change to its logo and shortened it to the phrase “UMASS”. However, the logo had two different fonts altogether.
The word “U” is displayed in a large, italicized font, giving the logo pizazz. The “MASS” part of the word is in a bold and bubble-styled font. The color of both the italicized “U” and the daring “MASS” is dark red, with a tiny white outline surrounding the entire logo. The logo remained in existence for nine years.
Between 2003 and 2011, the logo underwent a significant transformation. The “UMASS” logo featured a bold font in dark red with a white outline, similar to its predecessor. There were two critical differences. The bottom of the logo features the school’s nickname, “MINUTEMEN,” in white font against a black background. The top of the logo features an animated minuteman wearing a red hat and carrying a gun strapped to his back.
Massachusetts Minutemen Alternate Logo 2012 - 2021
In 2012, the institution adopted a logo featuring a large letter “U” with the word “MASS” across it. This logo features a variety of colors. The “U” is partly white and also features a grey highlight. The “U” also includes a black and red outline.
The word “MASS” is colored red and set against a white background with a small black outline.
Earlier this year, the Massachusetts Minutemen modified their logo to make it stand out even more. Just like its predecessor, the logo consists of the “U” with the word “MASS” placed in front of it. The fonts are the same as the predecessor. However, one significant change is that the “U” is now colored red, as opposed to its prior color of white and grey. The “U” has a white and black outline.
Overall, the number of colors in the “U” was reduced from five to three. Yet, the color scheme of the “U” gives it a particular distinction and flair that could not be found in its predecessor.
The word “MASS” has now been changed to white as opposed to the prior color of red. The logo now has a red and black outline. The “MASS” 's new color scheme also brings more attention to the logo and serves to give it more flair.
