There is no question that it is a perfect time to be a fan of the Phoenix Suns. A couple of days ago, the Phoenix Suns won the Western Conference Championship and clinched their first trip to the NBA Finals since the 1992 - 1993 season. No doubt that fans will find several NonStopCasino operators to place a bet on their favorite team. During that year, Charles Barkley led the Suns to a Finals matchup against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. However, they would fall to the Bulls in six games.

Phoenix Suns Primary Logo 2014 - Present

The Phoenix Suns have existed as a franchise for 53 seasons. However, there is no question that they have enjoyed a fair amount of success. In 53 years as a franchise, the Suns have been in the playoffs 30 times. The Suns made consecutive playoff appearances from the 1977 - 1978 season to the 1984 - 1985 season under the late John Macleod.

After a few years of missing playoff appearances, the Phoenix Suns managed to make the playoffs every single year from the 1988-1989 season to the 2000-2001 season. During this run, the Suns had four different head coaches.  Cotton Fitzsimmons, Paul Westphal, Danny Ainge, and Scott Skiles were all great coaches. Cotton Fitzsimmons had two different head coaching stints during that time. 

A few years later, Mike D’Antoni became the coach of the Suns and breathed life into the offense with his “Seven Seconds or Less” style offense. The Suns would make the playoffs for four consecutive seasons under D’Antoni. They would make it to the Conference Finals twice in D’Antoni’s tenure.

Given the Suns' history of consistently good seasons, it is clear that they have developed a significant amount of fan loyalty. The Suns have undergone numerous logo changes. Let’s take a detailed look at some of the history of the Phoenix Suns' logo changes. 

The Suns retained their first primary logo and first alternate logo from 1969 to 1992. The first primary logo of the Phoenix Suns featured a purple “PHOENIX” at the top and a purple “SUNS” at the bottom. The middle of the logo features a gold basketball positioned front and center on a red background. The gold-colored basketball features a white border with spikes that resemble flames. The color of the golden basketball is reminiscent of the golden basketball that had all of the talents of the NBA players in Space Jam 1 that was given to the Monstars. It’s a real stand-out logo. 

The Suns had an alternative logo during this period. This logo contained an orange-colored sun.   Contained within the orange sun, the word “SUNS” is included in purple with a tiny white outline around the purple text. 

Phoenix Suns Primary Logo 1993 - 2000

The Suns would change their logo in the 1992-1993 season. As mentioned earlier, this is the season in which they last appeared in the NBA Finals. With this logo, purple is the dominant color. The purple “PHOENIX SUNS” logo is no longer located on the top, and the “PHOENIX SUNS” logo is now located on the bottom.   The rest of the logo features an orange jagged star shape with an orange basketball outlined in black.  The star shape is preceded by streaks that are colored orange. All of this is contained within a square that is colored purple. The Suns retained this logo until 2000.

In 2001, the Suns made some minor changes to their previous primary logo. They placed a gray rectangular outline around the top and bottom of the logo. They changed the color of the “PHOENIX SUNS” logo from purple to white. Another key difference is that there is a thicker and more distinct black outline around the basketball. This logo lasted until 2013. 

In that same year, the Suns introduced a series of alternative logos. The first alternative logo that was introduced resembled the shape of a Phoenix Bird. The front of the logo contains a shield that has the word “PHX” in white. The shield is protecting an orange basketball, as well as the flames that are behind it.    

Phoenix Suns Alternate Logo 2021 - Present

The second alternative logo consisted purely of an orange-colored sun with a basketball within it, preceded by orange streaks. It stands completely alone with no outline.

The third alternative logo consisted of the same logo as the 2nd alternative logo. The only difference is that it had a circular purple background with a grey outline. 

In 2014, the primary logo underwent a couple of modifications. There was a black background and outline around the entire logo. The other significant difference was a change in the font of the “Phoenix Suns” logo at the bottom. This remains the current primary logo to this day. 

This past year, the Suns introduced an alternative logo. It simply contains the word “PHX” in the shape of an arch. The words were colored in beveled silver.  It looks very prestigious.
