The NBA squad Phoenix Suns will be rocking a new alternate logo in the 2020 - 2021 season. This will become the fourth alternate logo on the lineup with the new season right around the corner.

For many years, the Suns have rocked the iconic orange and purple colors. Over the past few, the organization has trickled away from the purple and strive for a more simplistic look using orange and black. As of right now, only one alternate logo has a mixture of purple and orange. 

This is one of the most classic in Suns history. This logo is a basketball with the “PHX” draped over top and with orange and purple flames coming out from above. This was around from 2000 - 2013 and was revamped and modernized to what it is today.

The same year that the flaming ball was redone, the Suns also revamped the shooting ball. This uses the same basketball as in the other, but there is a star being it, and lines coming from the bottom-left symbolizing a basketball shooting up toward the sun. This is a super simple logo as it only uses two shades of orange and one black for the lining of the basketball.

The other current alternate logo is quite different than the other two. It has been around since 2013 and is rectangular in shape with rounded edges. A black border is filled with orange and there are black points of the sun shape that create the letter “S” inside the body of the logo.

Up until the new alternate was announced, this one was the only one without a basketball in the design. Now, a different, more contemporary design with joining the “S” logo on the alternate roster. 

The new addition from the 2020 - 2021 season is catering to a simplistic movement that is straying away from the traditional styles. This new alternate logo is the “PHX” letters like seen in the flaming basketball alternate logo. However, they are dropping the traditional orange and purple and going with white and grey. 

Although this is very different for the Suns in terms of design and colorway, this is a trend that we are seeing across many sports in America. You can see this type of design in other NBA teams, baseball, and football. The blackout and whiteout colorways are on the rise, so it comes as no surprise that Phoenix will take a step toward that direction.

This exciting announcement hints at possible whiteout uniforms and the suns being on a new, interesting path of presentations in the future. Although there has yet to be an announcement about new uniforms that cater to this logo, it may be a development in the future. 

The NBA in particular is doing a lot to change up the uniforms and make them more appealing to new fans. Although this may just be an alternate logo, for now, it could be foreshadowing for bigger changes to come.
