San Francisco 49ers Primary Logo History

There have been only a few minor overhauls over the years; more notably the addition of a black outline on the intertwined “SF” in 1989 and a gold trimming on the inside of the oval in 1996. The red color in the 49ers logo represents passion, energy and optimism while the gold color depicts excellence and rich tradition of the team.

The original 49ers logo was a mustached gold miner from the 1849 California Gold Rush, dressed in plaid pants and a red shirt, jumping in midair with his hat falling off, and firing pistols in each hand: one nearly shooting his foot, and the other pistol about the head.
