The Philadelphia Eagles have had quite a few logos throughout their franchise history. This is especially the case when it comes to wordmark logos. The franchise’s current wordmark logo design first came into fruition in 1996. However, the franchise’s current wordmark logo is set to change as of last Thursday.
On that day, the franchise introduced a new wordmark logo that is way more modernized than their current version.
This announcement is a continuation of a recent trend with the Eagles with regards to changes in its brand identifiers. Recently, the franchise has recently announced that they will be bringing back their kelly green throwback uniforms for the 2022-2023 season. In March, the franchise also announced that they will have a black helmet. This will go with the alternative black jerseys worn by the team.
This will be the fifth wordmark logo in franchise history. From 1973-1995, the Philadelphia Eagles had a fully green “PHILADELPHIA EAGLES” wordmark. The “PHILADELPHIA” wordmark is smaller and is on top of the wordmark logo in a basic font. The “EAGLES” wordmark draws your attention as it is in a bigger font and is italicized in a classic font.
In 1996, the Philadelphia Eagles introduced three different wordmark logos that have been used by the franchise up until the present day.
The first wordmark logo has an “EAGLES” wordmark in a white, bold font. The wordmark is contained within a green background. A green outline can be seen on the top of the logo. One will notice that the “E” is jagged and that the logo has a tail at the end.
The second wordmark logo has a similar white “EAGLES” wordmark. A black shadow can also be seen amongst the logo. Additionally, this logo contains silver and green outline.
Finally, the Eagles have a third wordmark logo that is similar to the 2nd wordmark logo. The only difference is that there is a small “PHILADELPHIA” wordmark that is colored white. It is contained within a green background.
The new wordmark logo introduced last Thursday will only consist of one color. It does not contain any color outlines. It contains an “EAGLES” wordmark. One can see that the “E”s contained within the wordmark have a broken pattern. The font is quite glossy and modern.
Additionally, the new wordmark logo will be adjoined with the franchise’s primary logo which contains the bald eagle. There is a major difference between this new logo and its predecessor.
While its previous logo has the bald eagle below the previous “EAGLES” wordmark, the bald eagle of this new logo will be above its new wordmark logo for the Eagles.
