The beginning of Tottenham Hotspur FC can be traced back to when football betting was undoubtedly not a thing. Tottenham Hotspur FC was founded in 1882. Initially, they were known as the Hotspur Football Club. For most of the team’s history, it played its home games at the iconic White Hart Lane. Tottenham Hotspur FC played over 2,500 games at that venue before moving to their current home, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur FC has won two championships in top-flight competition. Those championships were won long before the Premier League was formed (1950-1951, 1960-1961). Tottenham was one of the few clubs that wanted the Premier League to be formed in the first place.
In addition, Tottenham Hotspur FC has won eight FA Cups and four League Cups. In 1963, Tottenham was the first club to win a competition under the UEFA governing body.
Many notable players such as Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves, and Ray Clemence have played for Tottenham.
Given the club’s long tenure in English football, it is no surprise that it has an extensive logo history. In this piece, we will review that history.
In 1951, the club made slight changes to its primary identifier. They still had a white shield logo with a dark blue outer trim, but the dark blue outer trim was not as bold as the one in the prior logo. The inside of the white shield contained a cockerel, taller and skinnier than the rooster in the previous logo. The logo lasted from 1951 until 1967.
From 1983 until 1995, Tottenham Hotspur FC's logo deviated from any hint of dark blue seen in the previous logos. The bottom of the logo contains a yellow ribbon with a wordmark that says “Audere-Est-Facere.”
This means “To Dare Is To Do.”
In 1995, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. reverted to the shield logo with color schemes reminiscent of their prior logos.
The inner portion of the shield logo was white, and the outer trim was dark blue.
The shield logo features a white corkerel with dark blue outlines across its skin. The corkerel is standing on a blue circle containing a sophisticated blue “THFC” wordmark. The logo was in use from 1995 to 1997.
This was attached to a purple shield logo with a bold yellow trim. A lot is going on within the shield logo. A tinier yellow shield logo with a purple “THFC” wordmark can be seen. Also, a white corkerel with purple outlines stands prominently on a yellow soccer ball. This lasted until 1999.
1999, Tottenham Hotspur F.C returned to its previous logo offering from 1983 to 1995.
There was one noticeable difference. Instead of the corkerel being colored yellow and blue, the corkerel is colored white and purple. This is the same color scheme as the circle that he is standing on top of. This continuity helped to give the logo more flair. This logo lasted until 2006.
A purple “Tottenham Hotspur” wordmark can be seen on the bottom of the logo.
This logo seemed like a callback to the football club's logo from 1967 to 1983. The corkerel stood on top of a purple ball, and while there was a slight difference in color scheme, the corkerel looked similar in both designs.
