Premier League Primary Logo
You can tell a lot about a sports team’s logo. Sometimes it’s a throwback to a historical reference point; on occasion, it’s a more deliberate attempt to inject some relevance into the direction the team may be aiming for, or even a purely marketing ploy.
When it comes to English football teams, especially those in the Premier League, we are talking about teams that have a rich history, usually with over one hundred years of mileage, and that usually means that the badges, or logos, they wear on their shirts are rooted in many generations.
The love we have for our sport’s team runs deep, and sometimes the logos are ones we might go as far as to tattoo upon our very skins; it may also lead us to back them with any number of sports bets, such as the range of great prop bets you can find at sidelines.io/propshop. With that level of dedication in mind, here are our thoughts on the top five logos in the Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.
As you might have guessed, Wolverhampton Wanderers (or Wolves for short) opt to have a wolf as their main emblem. The latest version of their badge has a very stylized wolf theme, and it stands out brilliantly with the golden background, which is, of course, the color of the team’s home shirts.
Everton F.C.
The Everton logo contains many themes. Its central image is of Prince Rupert’s Tower, which is in the city of Liverpool; it also uses some encouraging words in Latin. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, which translates to ‘Nothing but the best is good enough,’ although it's worth noting that it has been 27 years since the club last won a major trophy.
Aston Villa F.C.
The Villa logo features a ferocious lion and is set against a nice heraldic shield design, with the colors standing out well. It’s a border of claret with a lovely light blue interior that helps make the lion stand out in all its glory.
Crystal Palace F.C.
This is one of our favorite logos in the game. It features an eagle perched on a ball above the Crystal Palace. The color palette here is particularly effective. The contrast of a blue eagle with a red ball, below which are the words Crystal Palace, in blue, red, and white. Stylistically, it’s an excellent logo.
Liverpool F.C.
This badge had a lot going on. The liver bird is a symbol of the city where the team is based and the club itself. There are the Shankly Gates also pictured, and two flames that commemorate the fans killed in the Hillsborough disaster. The color scheme is very well put together, from the reds to the spearmint green. It also features the club’s motto, 'You’ll never walk alone,' which lends extra weight to an already superb sports team logo.
Most English football clubs have stuck with the same logo for the best part of a century, occasionally veering a little off the beaten track but keeping to the same ethos, and that’s quite rare in the grand scheme of things when you consider sports logos from the around the world, which are far more open to change for the sake of it.
