Panthers Logo History

The Michigan Panthers were one of the original teams to join the United States Football League (USFL) when it was first founded in 1983. The team’s logo has gone through several changes over its history, but still remains a symbol of pride for fans and players alike.

When the USFL launched in 1983, they chose a simple design with an orange panther head against a black background as their official logo. This design was used until 1985 when they decided to switch things up and add some more color to their branding by introducing green accents around the edges of the panther head along with white stars on either side.

In 1986, another change occurred as part of an effort to modernize their look and make it stand out from other logos across professional sports leagues at that time; this included changing both colors within each element so that there would be no confusion between them - orange became yellow while black turned blue - adding additional details such as eyes on either side of its face along with whiskers coming off from each corner giving it more personality than before! Finally, two stripes running down vertically behind gave balance to complete this version which lasted until 1988 when yet another iteration took place where all elements were simplified even further making sure everything remained crisp looking despite being scaled down size-wise due largely due technological limitations back then compared to what’s available today!

In 1989 after much deliberation amongst ownership & management staff members who wanted something completely different than anything seen before or since then –they decided upon creating ‘the claw' which featured bright red claws extending outward from underneath both sides plus four white stars arranged diagonally above representing courage & strength respectively; finally finishing off this iconic look by having three thin lines running horizontally across bottom half providing contrast needed for overall effect desired here–which continues till date albeit slight variations depending upon context/usage required at any given moment!
